{"value"=>"<p>The School Nature League, Inc. was founded in New York City in 1917 for the purpose of providing nature education for children in the public schools. It published nature study bulletins for school use and promoted the establishment of \"nature rooms\" for natural history exhibits. Its headquarters (from 1927) was located at the American Museum of Natural History. For financial support it depended entirely upon membership dues, contributions, and proceeds from the sale of its publications. In 1942 when the League was dissolved for lack of funds, the National Audubon. Society agreed to take over the sponsorship of its publications.</p> <p>The records consist of a topical file of miscellaneous papers including annual reports, bulletins, constitution, correspondence, children's' letters, ephemera and photographs. Included is a master's thesis (1940) entitled \"School Nature League... \"by Bessie Hersch; and a scrapbook (1900-1914) of the Natural Science Committee, a forerunner of the League.</p>"}
