Major NYPIRG projects documented in this series include monitoring the process of city charter reform and the New York City Charter Reform Commission (instigated when the city's Board of Estimate was declared unconstitutional in 1989); government ethics and the CityWatch and CouncilWatch projects; election campaign finance; waste disposal and other environmental issues; and voting and other elections issues. Other elements of the series include the controversy over the disposition of the Giuliani mayoral archives, the New York State oil company tax of the early 1980s, and internal NYPIRG correspondence, which mainly discusses staff retreats, conferences and student training.
