{"value"=>"
Paul Libin began operating the Martinique Theatre, located in the Martinique Hotel, in 1958. The first production staged at the Martinique was the initial revival of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, which ran for 571 performances. Under Libin’s leadership the Martinique became an important Off-Broadway house, hosting Circle in the Square productions (Othello, Baal, and the transplanted Six From La Mama), as well as other notable shows, including Six Characters in Search of an Author, Medea, and a key work of the 1960’s Theatre of the Ridiculous movement, The Gorilla Queen. The material in this series documents the day-to-day operations of the Martinique Theatre, and the works produced there during Libin’s tenure.
"}
