{"value"=>"<p>This sub-series contains all of the source materials collected by Valerie Rochon as she prepared the African American Dance Directory. Source materials consist of publicity materials produced by individual companies and arts agencies as well as general news clippings. Materials include advertising booklets describing the variety of arts groups operating within a state, computer printouts listing the names of dance companies, brochures detailing the annual schedule of a performing arts facility, publicity materials containing comprehensive information about individual companies, and clippings describing specific companies or dance in general. Publicity materials include company descriptions, show reviews, booking information, photographs of dancers and specific dance pieces, and photocopied articles about specific companies</p> <p>Source materials are organized under the categories: Directory Files and General Files. Directory Files contain all of the materials that Rochon filed into labeled sub-categories. General Files contain all loose source materials and clippings that Rochon did not file into sub-categories.</p> <p>Categories under Directory Files include: Arts Agencies, Companies, Libraries, Presenting/Sponsoring Agencies, Publications, General Dance Organizations, and Index Cards. Arts Agencies materials consist of resources produced by state or local agencies dedicated towards promoting the arts within a specific region.</p> <p>Companies folders consist of materials, mostly publicity, related to a specific company. Rochon arranged the Companies folders alphabetically by state according to a shorthand code for each dance form. The code is as follows: M-Modern, J-Jazz, T-Tap, B-Ballet, and AF-African Folkloric. Some folders include variants on this code, such as M-Post—for Post-Modern. Many of the company folders contain the appropriate completed and edited African American Dance Directory Questionnaire.</p> <p>Libraries folders contain materials about libraries with arts based collections and programming. Presenting/Sponsoring Agencies contain materials related to agencies that host dance based programming. Publications folders contain publications that publish dance related articles.</p> <p>General Dance Organizations contains materials that Rochon filed without further arranging into specific sub-categories. Index Cards contains materials that Rochon arranged into groupings of company data. Most materials are arranged alphabetically according to state.</p>"}
