It's scope includes the importance of free play in the life of the child, and the use of non-directive play therapy as a therapeutic intervention, especially in schools. Authors included in the literature review are Klein, Moustakas, Soloman and Axline. The practice of dance therapy with this population is also discussed, focusing on the work of Polk. Personal observations of a video-taped session were analyzed. Although this is a pilot study, it appears that the teaching of group roller dance, by a dance therapist, could foster socialization, and positive affect, increase self-control, and develop mastery and competence of the skills taught.
