In the 1960's he traveled many times to Russia on special assignments. The file includes records of his contacts and off-the-record conversations with various Russian personalities. Memos on censorship. Unpublished dispatches. The file also contains correspondence about other news assignments: coverage of Iran and Afghanistan (1961). Trip to North Vietnam (1966). Correspondence about the controversy raised by his dispatches from Hanoi including a critical memo from Hanson Baldwin. Transcript of Salisbury's interview on WCBS after his return from North Vietnam (1/10/67). In addition the file contains correspondence about his efforts to enter China, suggestions, ideas and comments to the Foreign Desk, notes on a project for a supplement on the 1960's.
