{"value"=>"<p>The bulk of this file concerns the work of Rosenthal as a foreign correspondent in India, Poland, Geneva, and Japan. From 1954 to 1958 he reported from New Delhi and covered such territories as Pakistan and Afghanistan. One piece of correspondence indicates that for a short period he was in Vietnam (May 1955). In June 1958 he arrived in Warsaw, Poland to take up a new assignment replacing Sydney Gruson. In November 1959 he was expelled \"for exposing too deeply the internal situation in Poland.\" The file includes correspondence and news clippings about the expulsion. Also included are clippings of Rosenthal's 5-part series on Poland after his departure from Warsaw. For most of 1960 Mr. Rosenthal was stationed in Geneva but he also assisted in the coverage of Africa. Upon his own request he was transferred in March 1961 to Southeast Asia with base in Tokyo. In 1963 he returned to New York to head the City Desk. From that point the file only contains miscellaneous memos concerning the Foreign Desk as most of the papers have been transferred to the Rosenthal Collection. Also included is a detailed record of Mr. Rosenthal's movement as a correspondent.</p>"}
