{"value"=>"
White Barn photographs are organized into general photos, production photos and museum exhibition photographs. The files contain black and white photographs, contact sheets, and color snapshots. Over the years, many of Miss Lortel's personal friends and members of the theatrical community visited the White Barn. Their photographs appear with regularity in both the general and production files. Some of these frequent visitors to the White Barn (performers and guests) include Haila Stoddard and Whit Connor, Frances (Gershwin) Godowsky and Leopold Godowsky, Robert Anderson and Teresa Wright, Keir Dullea, Liliane Montevecchi, Eva Le Gallienne, Marcella Cisney, Morton DaCosta, Henry Hewes, Bobby Lewis, Clarence Derwent, Gene Feist, Carmen de Lavallade and Geoffrey Holder, Lotte Lenya, Audrey Wood, Jean Dalrymple, Peggy Wood, Jane Powell, Eileen Heckart, and Donald Saddler.

Also included are photographs of famous individuals who visited the White Barn Theatre on occasion. These include Marilyn Monroe (1955), Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward (1964; 1974; 1984), Anne Baxter (1980), Arthur Miller (1974; 1983), Ethel Merman (1982), Gian-Carlo Menotti (1952), Shelley Winters (1975), Gene Wilder (1991), Tennessee Williams (1957), Lorraine Hansberry (1960), Langston Hughes (1953;1959), Dorothy and Lillian Gish (1950s), Ralph Bellamy (1948), Rod Serling (1955), Gwen Verdon (1990), Terrence McNally (1967), Cyril Ritchard (1967), and Frederick O'Neal (1961).

White Barn performers, directors and writers between 1947 and 1992 are indexed in Sam McCready's, Lucille Lortel A Bio-Bibliography. This index can be used to locate these individuals in the production files, however, not all performers are represented.

General photos (1947-1997) include interior and exterior shots of the theater, photographs of Derwent House and general files. The general files are arranged chronologically and include informal pictures of guests and performers gathered in and around the theater before and after the performances. Many of the photographs are undated and are arranged by decade.

Production files (1947-1998) make up the bulk of the photos. They include actual production photographs, headshots, and photographs of cast members and guests on the night of the performance. Not all production files contain actual photos of the production.

Museum exhibition files (1992-1996) include photographs displayed in the exhibits, and general snapshots of the exhibition space. Exhibitions were mounted on Sean O'Casey, Marc Blitzstein, Athol Fugard, Eva Le Gallienne and Ralph Alswang, Lucille Lortel, and Kurt Weill, Lotte Lenya and Bertolt Brecht.
"}
