She then moved to Lisbon, Portugal, in 1963, where she continued to work as a stringer. Occasionally she would travel to Africa and report on the countries she visited. In 1964 she was authorized to open an office in Lisbon for The New York Times. In 1977. as the correspondence indicates, Howe was reporting on the Middle East from Beirut, Lebanon. The file contains correspondence about assignments, copies of published and unpublished stories, a biographical sketch (1956), and a photograph of Howe (1957).</p>"}
