{"value"=>"<p>The Displamor Department was set up in January 1940 to sell advertising space in director Milton Reynolds' patented Displamor Machines, display cases with rotating shelves for showcasing merchandise and dioramas. The idea was embraced by Harvey Gibson as a potentially lucrative new revenue stream for the financially-strapped Fair Corporation. Reynolds and his staff designed programs and commissioned a field sales force to sell the idea to small businesses, service organizations and civic groups. Falling short of Reynolds and Gibson's ambitions, the machines were ultimately situated in just two Fair buildings, Communications and Food North. There, visitors were invited to rest comfortably in \"Displalounges\" where Displamor cases presented geographically or thematically-linked displays. The records include applications for sales positions, correspondence with exhibitors, manufacturers, service and trade organizations, transcripts of sales meetings, and sales training and motivational material. The Printasign file documents the original agreement between the Fair and Reynolds, as well as the evolution and aftermath of the program. Detailed correspondence between division managers and field representatives tracks sales progress and setbacks, and offers a window into sales practices of the period.</p>"}
