Like their counterparts in Foreign Participation, these Fair representatives were charged with promoting the Fair and securing commitments. Traveling across the country and to the U.S. territories, they met with governors, Chamber of Commerce officials and other civic leaders urging participation through exhibits and special events. The department records contain Commissioners' progress reports and correspondence; data sheets with information on regional contacts, natural resources and industries; negotiation on rental fees; research papers on the history of participation of states at past world fairs; and information on legislative bills and the allocation of funds.</p>"}
