{"value"=>"<p>These records concern the financing, planning and construction of the Federal and New York State buildings, the process of obtaining state and federal legislation and financing, and the functional operation of state and foreign pavilions. The New York State World's Fair Commission file includes a report on the serious cost overruns on construction of the amphitheatre. State and country documents primarily relate to matters of space rental, construction and demolition, and the regulation of restaurants and foreign workers. While yielding little information about the substance of government exhibits or programs, the files occasionally, if obliquely, evidence the mark of world affairs upon Fair business. Examples include a form letter indicating the German takeover of a Jewish firm in Czechoslovakia and correspondence concerning large numbers of unemployment claims made by former employees of the Hungary and USSR pavilions. Germany's file, while brief, tracks the status of the prospective inclusion of a German pavilion at the Fair from contract negotiations through the country's ultimate cancellation of plans to participate.</p>"}
