{"value"=>"Has received his letters of April 23d. and 30th.; had been at a loss what to do; had a scheme for arming the district, and hopes to be in order to march by the 25th; Gen. Greene orders him to remain where he is until his men are equipped for the field: will await further orders from Gen. Sumner; Capt. Alex. Brevard is his only assistant, and the difficulties of bringing out the militia are great; Gen. Polk has ordered different places of rendezvous; will do all he can to get the men ready; only 76 have reported for duty, and but one-third are properly clothed."}
