{"value"=>"<p>Jonathan Mann, director of the World Health Organization's Global Programme on AIDS, died on September 2, 1998 in the crash of SwissAir Flight 111 bound from New York to Geneva where he was to attend a World Health Organization conference. Mann was Chair of the VIII International Conference on AIDS scheduled to take place at Harvard University in the summer of 1992. In a courageous stand against discrimination, he and the International AIDS Society cancelled the conference in Boston after the U.S. Congress erected travel restrictions against persons living with HIV/AIDS and moved the Conference to Amsterdam.</p>"}
