{"type"=>"did", "value"=>" For nearly two decades, ASO had copies of his letters made in specially treated bound books, even though other copies of many letters were kept in his regular files. There are 16 such books, numbered 78a through 78p.\nThree of the volumes, 78a (Nov. 7, 1881-June 3, 1884), 78b (July 8, 1884-Jan. 28, 1887), and 78f (Dec. 3, 1894-July 4, 1896), were copied page by page in the early 1970s at the direction of C. M. Lewis, then the Director of Archives. The copies of these pages have now been inserted in the appropriate people and subject files.\nThe other 13 volumes have been processed more selectively. Only the more important letters have been copied (photocopied if they were in suitable condition, retyped if they were difficult to decipher). These copies have also been inserted in the appropriate folders. In addition, a brief summary of the principal topics covered in each volume has been written; these summaries appear below. Entries have been created for each topic and for the principal persons and organizations involved, with references to the relevant volumes but not to specific pages or dates. "}
