{"value"=>"<p>George Colles' travel diary contains detailed descriptions of daily activities, places, and people encountered during his travels through England, France, Italy, and Switzerland in 1859. In addition to the travel diary there are 25 journals and other loose papers describing daily weather, meetings, thoughts, and activities pertaining to George's family, friends, and business matters,1878-1883. The first diary includes brief descriptions of family members as well as a short chronology of his life. Parts of journals #8 and #10 are written in shorthand, and journal #9 is missing. All diaries end with a few pages of miscellaneous notes, lists, and sketches. Some of these pages in diaries #19 and #20 have been torn out.</p> <p>The Book of Remembrances contains brief, factual records of daily weather, calls, visits, meetings, birthdays, family activities, and major events in George's life from 1864-1881. There is an occasional newspaper clipping attached and certain entries between 1876 and 1880 are written in shorthand.</p>"}
