{"value"=>"<p>Lila Vanderbilt Sloane Field (1878-1934) was the daughter of William Douglas Sloane and Emily Vanderbilt Sloane. She met William B. Osgood Field in 1900 through her uncle, George Washington Vanderbilt. They were married in 1902 and had four children, William Osgood, Frederick Vanderbilt, Marjorie Lila, Mary Augusta.</p> <p>Unlike her Vanderbilt relatives, Lila disliked large parties and other trappings of Gilded Age society, preferring quiet times with family and a few friends. Despite this, she maintained close relationships with two opera stars of the time, Geraldine Farrar and Emma Eames. She traveled to Europe with her family occasionally, but suffered from seasickness, so did not travel as often as her husband. She enjoyed and excelled at hunting and fishing, traveling to Florida and Canada with her family to pursue these sports (her diaries provide detailed accounts of what she caught on these trips). She was also an accomplished golfer.</p>"}
