{"value"=>"<p>The alphabetically arranged correspondence consists of correspondence from Sayre's English and American friends, including authors, editors, writers, and journalists, and with her publishers. The correspondence is incoming, excepting for the correspondence with James Stern and with Peter H. Judd.</p> <p>Included in the Peter H. Judd file are some 165 lengthy handwritten letters (1950-1965) from Nora to Peter, her Harvard friend and lover, while he was on active duty at Fort Dix, New Jersey and while he was studying at Oxford University in England. The bulk of the letters by Nora were written from Paris and London. They offer an unusually rich and colorful documentation of her social and literary life there, her daily routines, her searches for lodging and employment, her literary work in progress, her struggles to establish herself as a writer, and her relationship with Judd. Included are numerous anecdotal accounts of encounters with notable literary figures and others including Albert Camus, Charlie Chaplin, John Davenport, Walker Evans, Graham Greene, David Hughes, Arthur Koestler,. A. J. Liebling, Tyrone Power, Ben Shahn, Stephen Spender, Alice Toklas, Elizabeth Jane Howard, and Mai Zetterling.</p> <p>The James Stern file includes a file of photocopies of mainly typewritten correspondence (1966-1993) from Nora Sayre addressed to her English friend, the author James Stern, and his wife, Tania; and an extensive file of photocopies (1970-1992) of Stern's letters to her. The correspondence concerns mainly literary matters, literary gossip and anecdotes, and social life and activities. Included are a few original letters from James Stern, and a few photographs and memorabilia of the Sterns.</p> <p>Included is correspondence with Rutgers University Press, Constable Publishers, and Counterpoint.</p> <p>The correspondence from the author, Gwendolyn Reed, includes lengthy letters describing her travels in Bali, Indonesia, Bihan, India, Penang, Malaysia, Katmandu, Nepal, and in Queensland, Australia.</p> <p>There are one or more letters from Eric Bentley, James M. Cain, Malcolm Cowley, Walker Evans, James T.
