{"value"=>"
The John Cage subseries dates from the 1970s to 1985, and contains materials related to Amacher's work with Cage on Lecture on the Weather, Empty Words, and a performance at The Kitchen in New York City. There are also selections of Cage's own recordings, and some recordings which were not attributed to a specific Cage collaboration. Files and recordings are grouped together by project, and arranged alphabetically by Amacher's assigned titles.

The Lecture on the Weather materials are all from the 1970s, and consist mostly of audio recordings. The recordings are all undated and arranged alphabetically by the titles Amacher used. There is a large group of recordings called \"Rain and Thunder Mixes\" where Amacher wrote recording and content notes on the media's cases. Scans of these items are available from the Music Division upon request. There is also a notebook in box 29, folder 10 that includes tape notes about Amacher's Lecture on the Weather recordings, some of which reference the \"Rain and Thunder Mixes.\"

The Empty Words/Close Up files hold an assortment of project descriptions, grant applications, notebooks, recording notes, drafts, and audio and video recordings. The notes and the recordings are often vague and inconsistently labeled, but it is likely that the notes held here do reference the recorded materials.

Also present are three recordings from a performance installation Amacher did at The Kitchen in New York City with John Cage and George Lewis. There is additional information about this performance available in subseries VI.C. It is likely that the New York City Harbor recordings held in Subseries I.A. were also used for this performance installation.

The recordings by John Cage that are held in this subseries were mostly labeled with ambiguous titles in which the content is not entirely clear. However, there is a clearly labeled group of recordings from his composition \"Fontana Mix.\" These recordings are accompanied by a folder of mixing notes.

In addition to her music collaboration with Cage, Amacher also wrote two essays about Cage. These writings, \"The Future of Music: Credo #2\" and Amacher's chapter included in Writings Through John Cage's Music, Poetry, and Art, are held in subseries VI.D. Subseries VI.B. and the correspondence in series XI both hold recommendation letters Cage wrote in support of Amacher for projects in which they did not collaborate.
"}
