{"value"=>"
Three folders: Following the demise of several New York City afternoon papers, the Times seriously considered publishing such a paper. It was not to be just a late edition of the regular New York Times, but a distinct publication. The papers from May through November 1967 comprise memoranda on the content and format of the paper, schedules and assignments, correspondence with outside contributors, and reports on the production of dummies. These documents culminate with AOS's memorandum to the staff announcing the decision not to proceed, and with AMR's notes reviewing the project (presumably for a report or speech). The later papers include a report that the Daily News is considering an evening edition (Dec. 1967), Charles Guthrie's proposal for a different kind of evening newspaper (March 1971), and Walter Mattson's memorandum initiating a new study of such a project (Dec. 1976).
"}
