{"value"=>"<p>This subseries consists of files related to Lahiri's short story collections, novels, and translation works. The files range from the 1988 typescript drafts of stories that would later appear in <span class=\"title\">Interpreter of Maladies</span> to an annotated galley of <span class=\"title\">Roman Stories</span>, the English translation of <span class=\"title\">Racconti Romani</span>, completed in March of 2023. Also present are research materials, early notes, drafts, galleys, and correspondence related to edits. Lahiri retained some of the original cover mockups for <span class=\"title\">The Namesake</span> and <span class=\"title\">Unaccustomed Earth</span>.</p> <p>Lahiri often begins drafting her work in undated project notebooks. These are present for each work except for <span class=\"title\">Whereabouts</span> and <span class=\"title\">Translating Myself and Others</span>. The files for each work are particularly rich in drafts, proofs, and galleys with extensive autograph annotations. These annotations are often in Lahiri's own hand, as well as various editors and publishers, often by former Penguin Random House editor-in-chief Robin Desser. Several rounds of drafts are present for each work. Drafts are often titled and dated, particularly if a revision was done for a reading, at a specific location, after a sample had been published, or after an editor's remarks were received.</p> <p>Lahiri's diary and planner during the filming of <span class=\"title\">The Namesake</span> are held in this series, as well as two screenplays and a FOX press packet. Some promotional materials and reviews related to her works are held in this subseries and are also represented in Series IV: Ephemera.</p> <p>Some drafts of short stories in the collections are also included in Subseries I.C.
