Included is extensive correspondence with Devadas Gandhi, managing editor of <span class=\"title\">The Hindustan Times</span>, who was Mr. Hertzberg's immediate superior in India. The correspondence covers a broad range of Mr. Hertzberg's activities as special correspondent, including his personal and business relationship with Devadas Gandhi, his efforts to obtain federal aid to relieve the threat of famine in India, his trip to India in 1952, the distribution of the Overseas Edition of the newspaper, and the publication of an American edition of the correspondence between G.D. Birla and Mahatma Gandhi. Included is correspondence (1952) with Fred Friendly and Palmer Williams of CBS Television relative to Mr. Hertzberg's television interview with Prime Minister Nehru. The despatches, typed on RCA Radiogram stationary, analyze for the Indian audience current events relating to Indo-American relations, American politics and foreign policy, and the United Nations.</p> <p>The miscellaneous papers include bills, receipts, bank statements, canceled checks and other papers relating mainly to the operation of the New York office of the newspaper which was managed by Sidney Hertzberg.</p>"}
