{"value"=>"<p>Page proofs for the first edition, with corrections to the poems \"Cristina and Monaldeschi,\" \"Donald,\" \"Ixion,\" \"Jochanan Hakkadosh,\" \"Mary Wollstonecraft and Fuseli,\" \"Never the Time and the Place,\" and \"Pambo.\" Browning has made 51 corrections, and a corrector at Spottiswoode has marked numerous mechanical faults in the typesetting. These page proofs represent an intermediate stage of the proofing process; they appear to be second author's proofs rather than final or press proofs. The printed readings in the proofs, which were produced (according to an attached proof ticket) around 1 February 1883, differ from the manuscript at nearly 500 points. Presumably, this set of proofs was returned to Browning with his next revises. When George Barnett Smith asked for an advance copy of Jocoseria to review, Browning sent him this set of proofs. Bound with the preliminary matter in brown levant morocco by Zaehnsdorf. Inserted is a 17 February 1883 letter from Browning to George Barnett Smith (MISC 0722). See additional entry in series II for letter.</p>"}
