{"value"=>"<p>Fair copy, slightly revised, headed \"Bells & Pomegranates. No. 6.\" Composed of 30 folded leaves (numbered by Browning 1–30) and 60 pages (numbered in an unidentified hand) bound in vellum; paper watermarked 1841 and 1843. The names of the compositors who worked for Bradbury and Evans, the firm that printed <em>Bells and Pomegranates</em> for Edward Moxon, are marked in the upper-left hand corner of the appropriate leaves: Ancott, Smith, Davidson, Hall, and Wood. The excisions and the pencil marks which emphasize any word in a particular passage are also in Browning's hand. At the end of the volume, reverso, are three manuscript pages, in pencil, of another play, titled \"Otho, or The last day\", in the hand of Robert Browning, Sr., dated 13 June 1847. Mounted to front binder's leaves are two letters that discuss this manuscript: one from Browning to H. Buxton Forman dated 2 July 1877 (MISC 0811; see additional entry in Series II); and one from Richard Garnett to Forman dated 31 July 1894 (MISC 0812). Various accompanying materials have been removed to the MISC file, filed under Browning as (MISC 0810-0811): galley proofs of Forman's articles on <em>Colombe's Birthday</em> from <em>The Athenæum</em> in 1894, with Forman's notations; Forman's three-page \"Note for Wise\" describing the manuscript; a reference note signed \"HBF\" referring to the Browning letter of 1877; an autograph letter from J. Dykes Campbell to Forman dated 5 November 1885 offering tickets to a production of <em>Colombe's Birthday</em>, along with a printed announcement of the play from the Browning Society; an obituary on the actress Helen Faucit, who played Colombe, clipped from <em>The Daily News</em> of 1 November 1898; and various related early-20th-century clippings. Removed and cataloged separately is the first printed appearance of Browning's \"The King\" (2 pages; 1 leaf) removed from <em>The Monthly Repository</em>.</p>"}
