{"value"=>"
The Productions subseries dates from 1960 to 2019 and presents files from Gallardo's writing work. Most of this subseries consists of script and scene drafts, notes, contracts, correspondence, sheet music and scores, review and publicity clippings, and flyers and posters for theatrical plays, musicals, teleplays, and screenplays written by Gallardo.

The most thoroughly documented writing projects in the subseries are from Gallardo's produced theatrical projects, namely Simpson Street, Bernie, Women Without Men, Selena, Carmen Libre, Fantasma, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Casanova Returns, Waltz on a Merry-Go-Round, Magpie, and The Petrified Prince. While Gallardo's early writing career focused mainly on theatrical projects, as his career progressed, he adapted some of his theatrical plays into screenplays or film treatments and created teleplays and screenplays for live and animated motion pictures. The unproduced screenplays and theatrical plays Star Wars, The Little Match-Girl, Rumpelstiltskin, and Uncle Tom's Cabin are also well-represented in Gallardo's files.

Gallardo's files on the Selena musical hold production materials, correspondence, flyers, posters, legal documents, and review clippings for Selena Forever (the production using Gallardo's book and lyrics) and Selena: A Celebration of Life (a revamped production that rewrote Selena Forever without crediting Gallardo).

Of note is Gallardo's children's story, Esperanza, which was written for Celebrando La Diferencia, a weekly theatrical series promoting literacy to Latino youth in Los Angeles. Also present are drafts of plays by other writers that Gallardo translated into English, and manuscript drafts of Gallardo's unpublished memoir Malas Palabras (Bad Words, Curse Words).
"}
