{"value"=>"<p>This subseries, dating from 1947 to 2007, chronicles Dunne's publishing process from research to promotion. In addition to Dunne's published books, the subseries also features research from the unpublished Yellow Ribbons project, as well as correspondence, forward drafts, and published volumes from the posthumous essay compilation book, <span class=\"title\">Regards: The Selected Nonfiction of John Gregory Dunne</span> (2005).</p> <p>Dunne retained a small amount of correspondence from fans, editors, and colleagues. He also kept correspondence about his and Didion's contract negotiations with Simon & Schuster from the early 1990s. Most of Dunne's professional correspondence is held in Subseries II.B. Journalism.</p> <p>Documentation related to Dunne's published books account for most of the subseries, and includes manuscript drafts, annotated and unannotated galleys, proofs, correspondence, notes, outlines, research files, review clippings, and publicity materials. Of note is a 1977 sound recording and transcript of Didion interviewing Dunne at the Dorchester Hotel in London, England, about <span class=\"title\">True Confessions</span>.</p> <p>Files for <span class=\"title\">Dutch Shea, Jr.</span> (1982), <span class=\"title\">The Red White and Blue</span> (1987), <span class=\"title\">Harp</span> (1989), <span class=\"title\">Crooning: A Collection</span> (1990), and <span class=\"title\">Playland</span> (1994) reveal Dunne's research processes and involvement in the publicity of his works. Thoroughly documented books in the subseries include Dunne's 1997 work <span class=\"title\">Monster: Living Off the Big Screen</span> about his eight years of working on <span class=\"title\">Up Close & Personal</span> (1996). The other closely chronicled book in the subseries is Dunne's posthumously published novel <span class=\"title\">Nothing Lost</span>. Didion preserved Dunne's notes, notebook, plot outline, chapter and manuscript drafts (many containing Didion's edits), and research binders.</p>"}
