Original label reads: \"Ms. Jean Hutson - History of Harlem.\"</p> <p>v01f01: Hutson talks about one of her earliest memories, which was of the Armistice in 1918. She recalls getting in trouble for rearranging Arturo Schomburg's books at the 135th Street branch in 1936. Hutson describes encountering racism at Barnard College and the New York Public Library. She describes working at various branch libraries before returning to the Schomburg to be the curator after Dorothy Williams. She recalls how President Nkrumah invited her to build a library in Ghana. Part 1 of 2.</p> <p>v01f02: Hutson describes the creation of the Schomburg endowment fund, and the formation of the Schomburg Corporation. She describes the renovations of the landmark building, and the construction of the new building. Hutson and the interviewer can be heard paging through a book about Harlem history. Hutson talks about some of the literary figures she's known, including Zora Neale Hurston.
