He was an American academic and chair of English Linguistics and History of Civilizations at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. The introduction appears to be near the end of the recording. The tapes in this recording were made during fieldwork in Central America and the Western Caribbean by linguists who contributed to the volume, which included Barbara Assadi, Geneviève Escure, and Holm. The volume is about the Anglophone Creoles found on the Caribbean coast of Central America (Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama), and its offshore islands (Providencia, San Andrés and the Caymans).
