{"value"=>"
This subseries holds Charlip's professional, unpublished, and incomplete writings, arranged alphabetically. Many writings are titled, but some are grouped by topic, such as \"Poetry\" or \"Short Stories.\" Charlip's writings date from the 1960s to the 2000s, with most dating from the 1980s forward. The majority of writings are typed.

Some of the professional writings were published in Contact Quarterly, including \"Performing & Publishing,\" \"Now Thyself,\" and \"Silentalk.\" The First Remy Charlip Reader contains five Contact Quarterly articles. Three of Charlip's speeches are held here: his 1980 keynote address at the Carnegie Institute, a 1982 speech at Hunter College, and his Goldie Lifetime Achievement Award speech from 1999.

This subseries contains many writing drafts and notes for Making Things Up: The Art of Being an Artist, Charlip's unpublished book and multimedia project inspired by a workshop of the same name that he taught at Sarah Lawrence College; Charlip worked on the book in the few years before his stroke in 2005. There are writings on various topics, such as teaching, making picture books, internal dancing (a term Charlip coined that refers to small body movements), and healing. Charlip's statement of plans and outline for the book, as well as fundraising notes, are included. Additionally, there are proofs and outlines for the book.

Also noteworthy is Postcards to Gopshe, an uncompleted book collaboration between Charlip and artist Donald Evans from the 1970s. Dozens of postcards Charlip and Evans collected for the book are present, as are notes and correspondence about the project.

Charlip's poetry consists of many unpublished and uncompleted works, notably a proposed collection titled Finish These Poems: The Incomplete Works of Remy Charlip. Other writings of interest include Charlip's reflections on Merce Cunningham and John Cage; Ideas for Teaching the Arts to Children, an anthology conceived by Charlip and the San Francisco Arts Education Project; and a storyboard and script for Self-Portrait, an unpublished autobiography.
"}
