{"value"=>"
The POW/MIA subseries spans 1973 to 2016 and includes drafts, correspondence, clippings, and research files about POW/MIA issues. Files are arranged by date, with office files arranged at the end.

Schanberg's POW/MIA Newsday files contain drafts, notes, and correspondence regarding columns written. In addition to his columns, Schanberg also wrote multi-part series on the search for two soldiers, John O'Grady and Richard Serex. These files contain notes, drafts, notebooks, and photographs for the stories, in addition to details about travel arrangements to Vietnam and a proposed television film based on Schanberg's O'Grady stories.

Schanberg would continue to write about POW/MIA issues for other publications, including Penthouse, APBNEws.com, The Village Voice, and The Nation. Files for these publications contain drafts, notes, correspondence, and media coverage. Arranged directly after the Penthouse files are subject files relevant to his articles for Newsday and Penthouse. These subject files cover the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, including files on Senators John McCain and John Kerry.

Filed at the end of the subseries are Schanberg's POW/MIA home office files. These files represent Schanberg's continued commitment to POW/MIA issues, with more files on McCain and Kerry, in addition to correspondence and files on President Jimmy Carter, David Petraus, and Leon Panetta. Also held here are files related to Freedom of Information Act requests.
"}
