{"value"=>"<p>Autograph draft legal memorandum addressed to an unidentified recipient (\"Sir\"), reviewing that person's case against \"Lansing.\" The heavily-emended opening begins \"Sir / In stating your case with Lansing I have not traced but only slightly touched upon your Dutch title ....\"</p> <p>The legal case concerns the boundaries of the Patroon's lands on the east side of the Hudson River. Although there are points at which Yates addresses the recipient directly (the Patroon himself at first, it appears), he mostly refers to the Patroon and the Van Rensselaers in the third person. The paper, apparently unfinished, ends with analysis of a deed introduced by the Van Rensselaers while the Albany Charter of 1686 was being drafted.</p> <p>The \"case with Lansing\" may possibly refer to Stephen Van Rensselaer II's dispute with Abraham Jacob Lansing in the late 1760s.
