The images are largely informal and feature Belafonte with colleagues, often at events. Some promotional shots are also contained here, mostly for musicians and actors in Belafonte's orbit. Files of Sidney Poitier and Paul Robeson photographs are included as well. This subseries reveals the artistic relationships Belafonte forged, and the wide array of artists he came into contact with throughout his career. It is arranged in the following groups: Belafonte with Colleagues; Colleagues without Belafonte; Promotional Photographs; Sidney Poitier; and Paul Robeson.</p> <p>Prominently featured individuals with Belafonte include James Baldwin, Jack Benny, Danny Glover, Mahalia Jackson, and Gregory Peck. The promotional photographs depict Patti Austin, Godfrey Cambridge, Aretha Franklin, Gloria Lynne, Hugh Masekela, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, and Dionne Warwick, among others. Some of these images are signed to Belafonte.</p> <p>The Sidney Poitier photographs primarily show Poitier with Belafonte at events from the 1960s through the 1970s.</p> <p>The Paul Robeson photographs feature Robeson acting and attending events. Some portraits are also included. Belafonte is not in any of these images.</p> <p>Because Belafonte's public life brought him into contact with many artists in a wide variety of settings, some of the people featured in these images appear elsewhere in the collection, particularly Subseries I.A., I.C., and I.D.</p>"}
