The correspondence is arranged alphabetically by correspondent or organization name, with the exception of a small assortment of chronologically arranged files in box 1. The purpose of much of the correspondence is to invite Belafonte to events, or to share positive feedback about his film and music projects. Since Belafonte's creative endeavors and activism were so deeply entwined, there is also frequent discussion of humanitarian and political causes. The bulk of the correspondence files are incoming letters, and most of the notes are brief. There is additional correspondence located in other parts of the collection, including in Subseries I.E., which is specific to the Belafonte Enterprises management company, and Series II, which pertains to Belafonte's activism and political work.</p>"}
