{"value"=>"
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (known as LDF), a tax exempt, nonprofit organization, was incorporated in New York on March 20, 1940, by leaders of the NAACP. Its purpose was to provide free legal aid to Blacks suffering from legal injustices because of their race; in addition, it also sought to seek and promote the educational facilities for Blacks who were denied the same because of their color or race. Today, LDF is the country's first and foremost civil and human rights law firm. It also is a separate corporation from the NAACP, with its own funds and board of directors. Since 1957, the LDF and NAACP has functioned without overlap of board and staff. The first executive director of the organization was Thurgood Marshall, followed by Jack Greenberg, for whom Clyde Murphy worked. Under Marshall, LDF argued the case of Brown v. Board of Education.
"}

Many of the case material folders only consist of reading material, such as briefs from similar or historical cases, peer-reviewed articles, and reports. Briefs for additional cases in which Murphy was included are filed separately.
"}
