There are legal documents and correspondence relating to the many lawsuits filed by vendors, bars, restaurants, venues, and utilities against Chamberlain Brown for collection of funds due, as well as for his 1934 bankruptcy declaration. Rent was always a problem and the files are filled with correspondence regarding unpaid rent, dunning notices, and legal actions by the various realty companies. There is also correspondence in 1951 with Century Pawnbrokers, where Chamberlain Brown pawned a typewriter and wristwatch.</p> <p>The Brown brothers received bequests from their father’s (George McDuffee Brown) estate and from their paternal aunts— Anne Brown Leacock (Aunt Nan) and Emma Brown Lyman (Aunt Kittie) both in their lifetimes and after their deaths. The papers include estate correspondence, wills, and trust statements. Two handwritten informal “wills” by Chamberlain and Lyman Brown in 1933 and 1938 are also contained in this series.</p>"}
