{"value"=>"
This scrapbook (1956-1960) is about the integration of North Carolina public schools and contains newspaper clippings primarily from the Greensboro Daily News, as well as the New York Post and The New York Times. The clippings in this scrapbook are about the process of integrating North Carolina public schools, with a focus on the Pearsall Plan, intended to gradually integrate the public school system, but was seen as pushback to Brown v. Board of Education. The scrapbook follows the development of the bill, voting on it, and the process of putting it into practice, as well as the first African American students who attended what were then all-white high schools. Throughout, there are several letters to the editor of the Greensboro Daily News, wherein readers express their opinions on integration, and the scrapbook ends with several articles covering Native American school integration in 1960.
"}
