Born in Detroit, Michigan, Adler was a contributing columnist on jazz and hip-hop culture to <span class=\"title\">Rolling Stone</span>, <span class=\"title\">Village Voice</span>, and the <span class=\"title\">Daily News</span> in the early 1980s.
