{"value"=>"<p>A contemporary copy of records created at U.S. Army general hospitals in Munfordville and Woodsonville, Kentucky, for the period January through March, 1862. Contents comprise patient registers for General Hospital Nos. [1], 2 and 3 in Munfordville and the hospital at Woodsonville; lists of soldiers employed as \"extra-duty men\" and morning reports for both locations; an inventory of effects of deceased soldiers at Hospital No. 1, Munfordville; and a tabulated \"Statistical report of general hospitals at Munfordville and Woodsonville Kentucky,\" with summary remarks by D. D. Benedict, Surgeon in Charge of Hospitals. He describes patients as the \"straggling sick\" left behind by regiments on the march, and mentions USSC relief efforts. Patients belonged to volunteer regiments from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin; named artillery units; and Regular Army units. Hospitalizations were chiefly for disease. Patient register entries are numbered consecutively, and roughly grouped by state and U.S. regiments within, noting cause of admission; dates for admission, transfer, and death; and remarks. A later pencilled note on the inside front cover advised returning the volume to the Surgeon General, possibly in the belief that it was an original Army record.</p>"}
