{"value"=>"<p>The Subject Files series consists of printed material and is arranged alphabetically by African nation, and then topically, with the bulk concerning South Africa. In particular, one folder contains information regarding a 1985 demonstration at the South Africa Embassy in Washington, DC and Stenhouse's subsequent arrest for participating in the demonstration.</p> <p>Information on Operation Crossroads Africa, 1977-1980, can also be found in this series. The precursor (founded in 1958) to the more prominently known Peace Corps model of cross-cultural engagement, Operation Crossroads Africa focused on encouraging Americans, African Americans in particular, to visit, learn, and engage with the people of Africa as a means of reconnecting with historic roots as well as strengthening cross-cultural understanding. Pamphlets, brochures, and recruitment materials comprise the information in the file. Additional material covers religion, evangelism and Islam in the continent of Africa.</p>"}
