While his mother was employed as chief factory inspector of Illinois, Nicholas lived with the Lloyds in Winnetka and began a lifelong friendship with the children of pro-labor, anti-trust author and journalist, Henry Demarest Lloyd. Lloyd's wife, Jessie Bross, was the only daughter of William Bross, Civil War lieutenant governor of Illinois and a founder of the Chicago Tribune. The Lloyd family correspondence is arranged chronologically and spans the years 1895 to 1957.</p>"}
