{"value"=>"<p>Nicholas Kelley was one of four children of Florence Kelley. His brothers William Darrah and John Bartram survived to adulthood, his sister Margaret Kelley died while attending Smith College in 1905. Nicholas married Augusta Maverick in 1909 and the couple had three children; Nicholas, Jr., Florence and Augustus. Nicholas, Jr. and Augustus both attended Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard University. Nicholas, Jr. earned his LL. B. from Harvard Law in 1934 and worked for Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. Augustus Kelley served in WWII and later worked as a rare book dealer in New York City. Florence was educated at the Baldwin School, Bryn Mawr, and Yale Law School where she graduated in 1937. She later served as a New York City District Judge. The Kelleys kept homes in New York City, first in the Fieldston area of the Bronx and later in the Gramercy Park district on East 16th St. The family spent summers on Sakonnet Point in Little Compton, Rhode Island. Nicholas Kelley was a member of the Religious Society of Friends.</p>"}

{"value"=>"<p>The Kelley family correspondence is arranged chronologically and includes the personal correspondence of Nicholas and Augusta Kelley, their children and Kelley's brothers William Darrah and John Bartram. Correspondence between Nicholas Kelley and his mother can be found in the Florence Kelley Papers (a separate collection in the Manuscripts and Archives Division). Often living in different cities, Nicholas and Augusta Kelley wrote letters to one another regularly. Kelley's letters to his family offer insight into his personal opinions of his professional activities. The letters from Kelley's children include those written from boarding school and college, and those sent during their early careers. The family correspondence is consistently handwritten. This subseries also includes V-Mail to and from Augustus Kelley, 1942-1945, during his service in World War II.</p>"}
