Born in Detroit, Michigan, LaBrew received his Bachelor of Music at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and his Master of Music at the Manhattan School of Music in 1955. LaBrew taught at the United Metropolitan Detroit and Army Band Training Unit, and he served as an executive board member of the National Association of Negro Musicians. He wrote and published a biography of Elizabeth T. Greenfield (the \"Black Swan\"), and was curator of the E. Azalia Hackley Collection at the Detroit Free Library.</p>"}
