Shipp, and lyrics by Paul Lawrence Dunbar. <span class=\"title\">In Dahomey</span> was a full-length musical created and performed almost entirely by African Americans. From 1902 - 1905, the musical enjoyed over 1100 performances and turned the vaudeville team of Bert Williams and George Walker into household names. <span class=\"title\">In Dahomey</span> was the most successful and longest-running Williams and Walker show. It also paved the way for more black Broadway shows, and promoted Cook as a spokesman for new styles of African-American music.</p>"}
