{"value"=>"<p>Dancer and choreographer. Born in Alexandria, Virginia, Dawson began her show business career as a chorus girl trained by vaudeville star Ada Overton Walker. Dawson was the first black choreographer on Broadway, choreographing for the Zeigfield Follies and the musical <span class=\"title\">Show Boat</span>. She is credited with introducing \"The Charleston\", along with Josephine Baker, in the hit show <span class=\"title\">Runnin' Wild</span> in 1923. She appeared in <span class=\"genreform\">Stormy Weather</span> with Ethel Waters, and <span class=\"title\">World on A String</span> with Cab Calloway, where she discovered singer Lena Horne. She also had a dance studio at Kelly Stables in New York City and did choreography for the Cotton Club, Apollo Theatre, and the Lafayette Theatre. Dawson was married to dancer Garfield Dawson.</p>"}
