{"value"=>"<p>Wide World News Photo Service, Inc., The Times' news and feature photo operation, included activities in the development and manufacture of photographic and photo transmission equipment, the latter largely inventions of Austin G. Cooley and his associates. When the photo operation was sold to the Associated Press in 1941, the equipment operation was maintained by The Times in a wholly owned subsidiary named Times Telephoto Equipment, Inc., with Cooley as executive director. The company's name was changed to Times Facsimile Corp. in 1947.</p> <p>Material about the company's equipment operation antedating Wide World's sale to the Associated Press can be found under \"Wide World News Photo Service, Inc.\"</p> <p>In February 1959, the assets of Times Facsimile Corp. were sold to Litton Industries, Inc., which formed a subsidiary also named Times Facsimile Corp. Cooley and most of the patents, trademarks and contracts were also transferred. The remaining shell of The Times' subsidiary was named Cedar Distribution, Inc., which wound up the company's affairs and was dissolved on March 9, 1959, the same day the closing with Litton took place.
