{"value"=>"<p>A letterpress book containing 96 pages of copies of letters and cables by Charles Ransom Miller. The first is dated June 17, 1893 and the last (month and day illegible) 1896. At that time, Miller was editor in chief of The Times and president of The New York Times Publishing Company. A few letters signed by Miller's secretary and a few others signed by George F. Spinney, the secretary of the Company, are included.</p> <p>Miller's letters deal with editorial matters, political issues, The Times' staff, and diverse other subjects. Several of the letters and cables are addressed to Harold Frederic, then The Times' correspondent in London. Those on pages 6, 20-22, and 24-27 defend a by-law of the Company requiring stockholders to notify the Company if they wish to dispose of their shares.</p>"}
