{"value"=>"<p> The Non-Grantees files include correspondence, resumes, clippings, photographs, publications, lists, and interoffice correspondence and notes regarding refugees who applied to the Emergency Committee but did not receive aid, as well as refugees who were assisted by other organizations or whose situation was somehow brought to the attention of the Committee. Not all of the files concern refugees or scholars (according to the strict definition of the Committee) and not all of these people applied to the Committee for assistance. Some wrote seeking information about the work of the Committee or other organizations.</p> <p> There is material regarding scholars who were awarded aid from the Committee, but were unable to accept for reasons of health. or who were unable to leave Europe. Some folders contain only a clipping regarding the fate of a scholar in Europe or an opening at an American institution that could be filled by a refugee scholar, while others contain years of correspondence with a particular individual.</p>"}
