{"value"=>"<p> The Grantees files contain correspondence with and regarding scholars who were aided by the Emergency Committee. Also included are correspondence with referees, university officials, refugee and welfare organizations, resumes, outlines of projects, photographs, clippings, publications by scholars, and interoffice correspondence and notes regarding scholars.</p> <p> The majority of the scholars received grants-in-aid that provided them a position at an institution of higher learning, however, 47 scholars received fellowships through a program created by the Julius Rosenwald Fund. The Fund provided a grant to the Emergency Committee to aid refugees through fellowships intended for those outside the teaching profession. The Rosenwald Fellows were generally younger than the other grantees of the Committee and were mainly artists and writers. The names of the Fellows have been identified in the list of Grantees.</p> <p> The fields of study represented by the scholars in this series include history, language and literature, philosophy, economics, law, sociology, biology, mathematics, and physics.</p>"}
