{"value"=>"<p>Pastor Weston frequently spoke in academic settings, at conferences, and at civic functions around New York City and the United States, addressing civil rights, justice, urban affairs, city planning, and education. The bulk of these speeches are from the early 1960s. A speech of particular note is the one Weston delivered at a special service at Washington Cathedral on the occasion of the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which can be found in box 123. Weston delivered another speech, titled \"The New Missionary Frontier: The American Metropolis,\" at the San Francisco Conference on Metropolitan Planning in 1963. Files contain, in varying proportions: speech scripts; outlines; notes for unscripted speeches; research material; and travel records for out-of-town speeches. The occasional presence of cut and notated \"order of service\" bulletins and sermon manuscripts in these files indicates that Weston sometimes adapted themes, ideas, and passages from his sermons into his secular speeches. Besides traditional addresses, these files also include benedictions, invocations, short prayers delivered away from St. Philip's Church, and other brief remarks. Speeches are arranged chronologically, with speech locations and/or titles listed wherever specified.</p>"}
