CARE reported that in March 1991, over one million Kurds left their home in northern Iraq fleeing to Turkey and Iran, to escape bombardment from the Iraqi army. Turkey requested help for international assistance, and CARE immediately made an assessment of the conditions under which thousands of refugees were living. By June 1991, CARE assumed responsibility for food distribution in all of northern Iraq. CARE was also instrumental in establishing stability in the refugee camps.</p> <p>The files include some correspondence, lists of families that detail information on who is the head of the household, number of persons in household, identity card number and other information; and additional detailed information about the distribution process.</p>"}
